Do Not Let Fishing Season End

With fishing being a major part of our lives, we find many things to do so our fishing season never ends. Winter can seem long and hard for many anglers and a few years ago the fishing season could be extended by ice fishing. However, for us here in Central Illinois, the last couple winters have not been cold enough for safe ice.
Therefore, these mild winters have provided many opportunities for some open water fishing and pleasant fishing at the power plant lakes or you can find many other fishing related activities to keep you busy during these winter months.
Winter can be the prefect time to clean, maintain and organize your gear and tackle while taking inventory too. Now you have an idea of needed tackle or gear so you can make a list to check for deals at Fishing Shows. Next would be to re-spool all your reels with new line, check rods and guides for damage and organize tackle into storage containers so you will know exactly where each item is once back on the water.
We find this a great time to catch up on reading those fishing magazines, books or articles we never had time for during the year and even better now while you have more time to focus helping you to learn new techniques or tricks.
We also use this time to plan and set-up the coming year fishing trips and prepare for the fishing shows we will be attending.
One of the best shows this month is the Tinley Park Fishing and Outdoor Show, now one of the largest outdoor shows in the greater Chicagoland area put on by the Tinley Park High School Booster Club. This show supports all of the student athletes at the Tinley Park High School and draws literally thousands of visitors, filled with exhibitors of over 85,000 square feet in three full sized gyms, cafeteria, and halls.
Rich Komar, manager of the show said, "Every year our show gets bigger and bigger. We can’t even fit our show in the convention center in town, it just isn’t big enough. And I think that it’s just great that our visitors can come to our show and see so many different things.” Hundreds of tackle exhibitors, Lake Charters Captions, Vacation resorts and tons of Outdoor specialty items can be seen.
Kids have a lot of things to do too! The show has a kids casting competition, a treasure hunt and the famous Tinley Parks Fishing Show Shore Lunch. There will be several new seminars, great demonstrations and a Lowrance rep will be showing everyone how to use a GPS and depth finders. Great give-a-way prizes each day with a final raffle for a brand new boat with trailer and outboard motor on Sunday.
The Tinley Park Fishing and Outdoor Show will be February 10 and 11 from 9 AM to 5 PM with admission of $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors, $2.00 for children 7 to 13, and kids 6 and under are free. The show is held at the Tinley Park High School, 6111 W. 175th Street, just east of Ridgeland, in Tinley Park, Illinois. Ample free parking is available and you can view a map with directions to the show, the seminar schedule and more at www.tinleyparkfishingshow.com.
While at this show come see us in gym B booth 38 right next to our friends Russ & Janice Nash, owners of the best catfish bait, Hoss’s Hawg Bait.
These things will not only keep you busy with fishing related activities but you will be better prepared and ready for fishing, which for many will not be soon enough.
